RUNNING MY FIRST MARATHON – THE ROAD TO CHICAGO PART 2

 13 Weeks To Go & (hopefully) I’ll Be Running…

 My First Marathon

42 kilometers. Wish me luck!

To mark the occasion, I’m tracking the ups and downs of my journey and sharing some nourishing recipes for athletic performance.  If you want to read Part 1 of my adventure so far, click here.  And at the bottom of this post, there’s a link to my favourite Wild Mushroom Oven Baked Risotto recipe that is ideal for ‘carb loading’ the night before a long run.  But first, more about my goals.

My Goals

I have 3 goals in mind.  My first:  To make it to the start line uninjured (not kidding).  My next goal: To attempt to mentally and physically embrace the journey leading up to the race. My final goal: To finish it.  That’s it.  No time pressure.  So maybe it’s not so crazy after all.

So, tell me – do you run?  Or cycle? Or swim? Or Walk?  Or do any form of exercise? Have you ever considered setting a very ambitious goal for yourself?  Maybe you want to join me so together we can prove that it’s never too late to try something new and challenging?  I’d LOVE to hear from you.  Maybe we can help each other out? I could sure do with some company.

Meantime, if you’re just looking for a way to get outside and move your body (and your knees and hips are in decent shape), consider running or walking or hitting the gym. If you need some motivation, I’ve got some tips about how exercise can be more than a chore. Read about them here in the post; ‘Exercise is a Pain in the Butt’.

Running has become a passion of mine

And I do believe, from a holistic health standpoint, that when you find a passion, you tap into your heart so you can live well and age better (my mantra which is plastered all over my website).   So Fuel Your Passion! Whatever it may be.  And of course, don’t forget to Fuel Your Body.   For a good endurance run you’ll need to fill those glycogen stores with some carbs.  So, check out this ‘Oven Baked Mushroom Risotto’ recipe. It’s one of my fave’s.

Until next time… I leave you with these inspiring words by Japanese author and runner Haruki Murakami

“Most runners run not because they want to live longer, but because they want to live life to the fullest.”
